Valér Futej is a film director, screenwriter, and editor, and a student of the Editing Department at FAMU in Prague. He has directed several short films that have received awards at national and international film festivals. His most recent short film, Kitchen — starring Judit Pecháček and Jan Révai — was selected for the official competition of the Oscar®-qualifying IN THE PALACE International Short Film Festival in Bulgaria, where it had its international premiere. The film later had its national premiere at the Zlín Film Festival and was subsequently screened at festivals in Germany, Croatia, and Italy. In 2025, he completed the satirical short film Patissérie, featuring Jan Cina in the role of a manipulative pastry chef.
In his work, the filmmaker consistently focuses on a distinctive, formally refined narrative stylization and on a precise approach to space and performance. Through fictional, highly stylized narratives, he reflects on the condition of the contemporary young generation as it searches for a stable identity within a globalized, consumer-driven society.
